The Nashville Predators made history this year, as the team advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time ever. Nashville was buzzing with excitement as the Preds chased the win, and many of country music’s biggest stars turned out to watch them play.

One country superstar who could always be found in the crowd was Carrie Underwood. She shares a close connection to the Preds, since her husband, Mike Fisher, was the team captain.

Although the Preds didn’t win the Stanley Cup, the team considered their season to be a successful one. After such an exciting season, Fisher decided it was time to end things on a high note. In an emotional letter published by The Tennessean on August 3, Fisher announced his retirement from the NHL:

This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I know I’ve made the right one. I’ve decided to retire from the NHL. I kept praying for peace about the next step in my life. A peace that said this is God’s will for your future…I don’t believe it came in a single instance or some aha moment, but as time passed, I gradually became certain that it was right for me to retire.”

Fisher said that he is looking forward to spending more time at home with Underwood and their two-year-old son, Isaiah. Underwood took to Instagram to show support for her husband’s decision, writing how happy she is to have him around more often.

“Isaiah and I love you so much and are so excited to be able to have you home a lot more,” she wrote.

Although Fisher isn’t playing hockey any longer, he seems to have found a way to stay busy. Underwood offered a early glimpse into how her husband is spending retirement when she shared an adorable photo of him on Instagram.

The photo shows Fisher surrounded by a group of smiling children who he visited during a recent trip to Haiti. Underwood shared the photo along with the simple caption “Retirement looks good on ya’.” We’d sure say it does!

Fisher also shared the same photo, and explained the story behind it in more detail. “Amazing few days @danitaschildren hanging out [with] some awesome kids!” he wrote. “This place is a children’s facility with housing, food program, school, church and a great hospital.
