One Of The Best Country Duets

When it comes to duets, country fans can never seem to get enough.

In fact, duets are some of the most popular country songs of all time, such as Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn‘s “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton‘s “Islands in the Stream.”

Another country duet that hit it big was Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert‘s “We Were Us.”

Released in 2013 as a single off of Urban’s album Fuse, the song lit up the airwaves and hit the top spot on both the Country Airplay chart and the Hot Country Songs chart. It was also a crossover smash, and managed to snag the 26th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

What Does He Do Without Miranda?

But you see, the thing about duets is that you need two people to sing them. So since Urban and Lambert can’t be together every time they have a show, they are forced to leave the song out of their sets.

Luckily for Urban, he found the perfect person to step up and fill in Lambert’s shoes during his show at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California. That person was none other than Lauren Alaina, who performed at the fair that same day.

As Urban told the crowd, he heard Alaina singing “We Were Us” before and knew he had to sing it with her at the fair. “We don’t get to do this song ever in our set, but I’ve heard Lauren sing it and I’m like, ‘You’ve got to come out and sing this song with me,'” he said. “So she said, ‘Ok, I’ll give it a shot.’

Staying true to her promise, Alaina joined Urban on the stage and started “We Were Us” without hesitation. Normally, Lambert is the one who opens the song and sings the entire first verse. So Alaina was left to carry her own until Urban jumped in on the chorus.

Alaina tackled her part with a fierce sense of spunk, setting the tone for what ended up being a fun duet. After watching this, we’re anxious to hear Alaina and Urban collaborate on a duet of their own!
