As inauguration day approaches, the final preparations are being made for all of the festivities associated with it. With more details of the inauguration being made public every day, we’re slowly learning about how involved various country stars will be.
It was announced on Tuesday (December 20) that the Randy Rogers band has been scheduled to perform at the 2017 Black Tie and Boot Presidential Inaugural Ball on January 19, the day before the inauguration. The ball is considered a sort of tradition, as there’s been one held for every presidential inauguration since the early 1950s. Now, a popular country music duo has been confirmed as the headliners of a major charity event on inauguration night.
That country duo is none other than Big & Rich, known for hit songs such as “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” and “Lost in This Moment.” It only seems fitting that they’d be involved in the inauguration day festivities, since they actually have a strong connection to President-elect Donald Trump.
In 2011, Big & Rich’s John Rich competed on Trump’s television show, The Celebrity Apprentice. He ended up winning his season, and earned a total of $1.5 million for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the process.
During an interview with Rare Country, Rich said that Trump had talked about running for the presidency during his time on The Celebrity Apprentice. Rich recalled a conversation they had about the whole thing:
“‘They want me to run for president,’ Rich said, repeating what Trump had told him. “I went, ‘I heard that.’ ‘But you know, ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ I can’t do both at the same time.’ We had this little back and forth.“
Five years later, and now Trump is the President-elect and Big & Rich are performing on his inauguration night. They have been scheduled as the headliners of the Record Industry Association of America’s charity event, which is set to take place on January 20 at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C.
Those are the only details we know about the duo’s performance so far, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more information. It is also unknown whether or not Trump will make an appearance during the event.
