The two legendary NASCAR driver brothers have suffered the devastating loss of their beloved and treasured mother, Margaret Waltrip, who passed away on Wednesday (July 12) at the age of 90.

Both Darrell Waltrip and Michael Waltrip had tremendous careers in NASCAR as both drivers, team owners, and sports analysts. Darrell was known for taking home the championship three times in the Winston Cup Series, and Michael had a star-studded career himself taking home multiple Daytona 500 wins and was crowned champion of the Darlington Dash Series.

In a statement shared to his official Twitter account, Michael Waltrip pours his heart out expressing how great of a mother they had, and sharing her precious final moments with family.

“This morning our mom passed away,” He writes in the message. “She laid peacefully in her bed with family by her side. Momma loved her bed and her house. It was just where she wanted to be.”

“Our family was blessed to be able to be with mom in the past couple of days. We were all able to tell her we love her and she would smile and mouth ‘Love you, too’. Knowing we were saying goodbye and Mom knowing we were there by her side made her passing as comfortable as possible.”

He continued to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during the difficult time and stated he would share details of her services once they had been finalized.

It’s always tough to lose someone so important in your life, but it’s a true blessing to be able to tell them you love them one more time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Waltrip brothers and their families during this time of loss.
