“It was very hard,” she says in a new interview about the recent discovery that her former boyfriend may be alive and living in a remote area of Mexico – more than a decade since he was believed to be dead following a boating accident.

Two separate private investigators have made very public statements regarding their discoveries that Olivia Newton-John’s former boyfriend,  Patrick McDermott, is living in Mexico with his new German girlfriend and working for a wealthy family.

The singer/actress had a nine-year relationship with McDermott that ended just months before he disappeared in 2005 following an incident at sea near San Pedro, California. The U.S. Coast Guard later declared McDermott deceased following their conclusion he “most likely drowned”.

But, in March 2016, the private investigators shared with Australian magazine, Woman’s Day, that he is actually living and working in a remote Mexican village, however no independent government agency has confirmed their findings.

In a new interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Newton-John reveals that it’s been difficult for her – ever since his mysterious disappearance after an overnight fishing trip.

“It was very hard, he was lost at sea and nobody really knows what happened,” She says regarding the reports of his discovery. “It’s human to wonder. But you know, those are things in life you have to accept and let go. Because whenever you go through difficult times, there’s always those concerns.”

“But, I live on…And of course, questions come up always – it’s human,” she concludes.

In the time that’s passed since McDermott’s disappearance, Newton-John remarried in 2008, but still wonders about the fate of her former lover…curious what happened.
