Global singing icon Aretha Franklin is being showered with affectionate messages after the public learned that her health has seriously declined.
Evrod Cassimy, an anchor at Detroit news station WDIV Local 4, tweeted on Monday (August 13) that the Queen of Soul is “gravely ill.” He spoke to Franklin’s family about her condition, who relayed her request for prayers.
BREAKING NEWS: I am so saddened to report that the Queen of Soul and my good friend, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill. I spoke with her family members this morning. She is asking for your prayers at this time. I’ll have more details as I’m allowed to release.

Those prayers immediately came in from artists of all genres, proving just how much of an impression 76-year-old Franklin has made in the music world. A few country stars spoke up to show some love for Franklin, with two of the most notable being Lukas Nelson and Krystal Keith.
Krystal, the daughter of country superstar Toby Keith, wrote an especially touching post in tribute to the Queen of Soul. Citing her as a huge inspiration in her own music career, Keith wrote,”Aretha has given me confidence to attempt the biggest notes and hardest runs. Her voice is powerful in more ways than she could ever know.”

Just as Franklin’s music transcends all boundaries, Kid Rock has mastered the art of jumping between several genres. He started his career off as a rapper and eventually found his home in the country music community. So it’s understanding why a genre-bender such has himself would have such a high level of admiration for Franklin and her work.
Rock expressed that admiration in a touching note on Instagram. Like many others, Rock shared a photo of Franklin along with his message.
Opening the post with an expression of love, Rock said he would be keeping the Queen of Soul in his prayers. He then referenced her famous song “Respect,” writing, “All of my RESPECT – forever. Kid Rock.”

While Rock’s message was simple, you can’t help but tear up as you read it. He only had to say a few words to touch people’s hearts, and to capture what everyone would surely like to say to Franklin right now.
