Back in November, Carrie Underwood suffered a serious fall at her Nashville home and sustained injuries to her wrist and face. In an end-of-year letter to her fan club, Underwood revealed that she had to get 40-50 stitches in her face following the fall.

She told her fans that because of the scars from her injuries, she was going to wait a while before she showed her full face on camera:

When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different. I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.”

Since then, the only photo we’ve seen of Underwood’s full face was shared in December by reality star Adrienne Gang. She took a photo with Underwood when she met her at the gym.

But as for Underwood herself, she shied from sharing photos of her full face for multiple months. Her social media feeds were mostly full of throwback photos, clips promoting her new song “The Champion,” and snapshots of her husband, Mike Fisher, and son, Isaiah.

Whenever Underwood did share a photo of herself, she’d always cover her face or have her head turned to the side. Thake this photo that she shared from a workout session that Isaiah interrupted one day. Although this was taken in February, Underwood was clearly still shy about showing her whole face.

For a while, Underwood’s only scheduled show for 2018 was set to take place in August. But when the lineup for the CMA Fest was announced, fans were thrilled to hear that Underwood was on the bill. That upped her first live appearance for the year to June.

Over the course of the past few months, Underwood has made it clear that she’s been hard at work gearing up for the next big thing. Finally, on Wednesday (April 4), Underwood shared a photo from the studio, making it clear she’s working on new music.

In addition to that, fans latched on to the fact that the photo showed more of Underwood’s face than they had seen in some time.

Just a couple of days later, on Friday (April 6), Underwood proved that she’s ready to ease her way back into the spotlight by sharing a new photo. This new photo allows us to see more of Underwood’s face than we’ve seen in months, as her full face is directed at the camera.

While the camera is far away from Underwood, it’s still a significant step in her climb back into the public sphere.
