Tammy Wynnette‘s “Stand by Your Man” is one of the most well-known and well-respected country songs of all time. Wynette released the song as a single in September 1968, and it was a smash hit. “Stand by Your Man” topped the country charts in both the U.S. and Canada, and also crossed over into the Top 20 on the U.S. pop charts.
Although Wynette had other big hits during her career, “Stand by Her Man” was always her signature piece. Today, modern country artists and fans perform the song in her honor, each of them putting their own spin on it.

Jo A Ram has a YouTube channel that is packed full of jaw-dropping violin covers of some of the most popular songs of all time. She performs her covers on an electric violin, playing everything from “Amazing Grace” to “The House of the Rising Sun.”
Country music is also represented in Jo A Ram’s impressive list of covers, in the form of Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man.” Jo A Ram filmed herself performing the song on her violin and shared it with her YouTube followers in November 2012. Since then, the video has generated thousands of views.
Words can not even begin to describe how marvelous Jo A Ram’s performance is. Not only does she play the song beautifully, but passionately. That passion is clear in facial expressions and movements as she plays, which adds a whole separate artistic level to the song.
The part that Jo A Ram plays is the song’s melody. So everything you hear her playing is what Wynette sang, with a little bit of added flair. She turns on a backing track of some sort to accompany her, making the song sound complete.
We never would have thought to play “Stand by Your Man” on the violin, so we’re glad that Jo A Ram thought of it first! It makes us wonder what other classic country songs would lend themselves well to such a cover.
