A Country Power Couple If You’ve Ever Seen One

Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter were one of country music’s greatest power couples. As individuals, they each established themselves as country music legends and pioneers in the outlaw country movement.

Together, Jennings and Colter recorded many memorable duets, including “Storms Never Last” and “I Ain’t the One.”

Jennings was also featured along with Roy Orbison on Colter’s self-penned song “I Belong to Him,” which appeared on her 1977 album Mirriam.

Colter decided to release “I Belong to Him” as the only single off of the album. Surprisingly, it never charted.

The TV Show You Never Knew Waylon Had

It used to be a common thing for popular country stars to have their own television show. Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, and others hosted programs that showcased some of the greatest talent in country music at the time. Jennings was yet another artist who had his own television show, called Waylon Jennings and Friends.

Waylon Jennings and Friends was an eight-part series featuring performances from some of Jennings’ friends and fellow country artists. His fellow Highwaymen members, Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson were just a few of the artists who participated in the show.

As Jennings’ wife, it’s no surprise that Colter also appeared on the show. It’s also no surprise that the couple collaborated during Colter’s time there.

A Duet Worth Remembing

In what has to be one of the most romantic duets we’ve ever witnessed, Colter and Jennings sang “I Belong to Him” on Waylon Jennings and Friends. Seated at her piano, Colter expressed her love for her husband through song, singing, “The songs I hear are from forever. Another day, some other way, we’ll both sing together.

Colter had the biggest smile on her face the entire time she sang. But her smile grew even brighter when she looked over to the side at the end of the second verse, which is when Jennings joined her by her side.

With Colter on the lead, Jennings sang harmony, resulting in the creation of a beautiful sound. Their love for one another came through in their voices, and could clearly be seen on their faces as well. They never seemed able to take their eyes off of each other! Now how sweet is that y’all?

Tune in below to watch this lovely duet between the undisputedly talented Jennings and Colter. Something magical happened every time they shared the stage with one another. You can feel that magic as strong as ever in this stunning performance.
