American Idol finalists Maddie Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson dropped a major bombshell during the Season 16 finale. They had been secretly dating for a large portion of their time on the show!
The reveal came just moments before Poppe was named as the season’s champion. Following the big announcement, Hutchinson took to Instagram to post his now-famous congratulatory message.
“MY GIRLFRIEND WON AMERICAN IDOL!!!” he wrote. “No one deserved it more than you babe.”

In the aftermath of the show, the couple hit the ground running to prepare for the upcoming Idol tour. Poppe and Hutchinson will be joined by five other contestants, including third-place finisher Gabby Barrett.
Since they’ve been preparing for tour, Poppe and Hutchinson have been spending a whole bunch of time together. This time has given them plenty of adorable photo opportunities, which they’ve captured whenever possible.
Back in June, Poppe share a simple snapshot of her and Hutchinson that had people all around the world going “aw.” As cute as the picture was, it was what Poppe wrote in the caption that melted everyone’s hearts.
“Idol has been the biggest blessing I could ever ask for…but the biggest blessing has without a doubt been you,” Poppe said, referring to Hutchinson.

Anyone who follows Poppe or Hutchinson on Instagram can tell that the couple is just as in love as they ever were. But those of you who don’t follow them have probably been wondering how their relationship is going.
Well, the two finally provided a long-awaited update on the status of their relationship during a recent interview with ET. And their Instagram posts aren’t lying…they’re still going strong!
The interviewer asked them specifically what it’s like to sing with someone you’re dating. Poppe explained that the two are so in sync, they know exactly what they’re going to do before they actually do it.
“It’s awesome, it’s like we get each other,” she said, looking at her boyfriend adoringly.
Hutchinson agreed, describing how effortless it is to sing with Poppe. “It’s like dueting with yourself almost.“
