May 1, 1967 was the date of one of the most high-profile weddings of the century. On that day, global superstar Elvis Presley married his longtime sweetheart, Priscilla Beaulieu, when she was 21 and he was 32.

Elvis and Priscilla first met 8 years prior when Elvis was stationed in Germany while he was serving in the military. Priscilla’s stepfather was also stationed in Germany at the time, and Elvis and Priscilla ended up meeting.

After a brief separation once Elvis returned to the U.S., Priscilla’s parents allowed her to go to Memphis to live with him while she finished her schooling. Elvis proposed shortly before Christmas in 1966, and they were married in a matter of months.

The couple wed at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas in a small, civil ceremony arranged by Elvis’ manager, Colonel Parker. That day, women around the world wept over the fact that Elvis was no longer a free man. Still, no one could look away from the beautiful photos that emerged from the ceremony and the reception that followed.

Although Elvis and Priscilla divorced in 1973, they maintained a close relationship up until Elvis’ death four years later. Even after all of these years, their wedding remains a source of fascination for Elvis fans around the world.

There are so many gorgeous photos from Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding day, but the following six are some of the most stunning.

6. When They Said “I Do”

Elvis and Priscilla were married in a private suite in the Aladdin Hotel, surrounded by just a few guests. Two members of Elvis’ inner circle, called The Memphis Mafia, served as “The King’s” two best men, while Priscilla chose her sister, Michelle, as her maid of honor.

Reportedly, Elvis asked to have the word “obey” removed from the couple’s vows. The ceremony was short and sweet, and only lasted a total of eight minutes.

5. When They Showed Off Their Fashion Sense

One of the things people remember most about Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding is how glamorous both of them looked. Elvis wore a black suit that was designed specifically for him, along with a pair of Western-style boots.

As for Priscilla’s iconic wedding dress, she helped design it herself. The chiffon gown was trimmed with pearls, and she wore a three-foot veil along with a glittering rhinestone crown.

It goes without saying that Elvis and Priscilla made a beautiful couple!

3. When They Took A Picture With The Staff

Putting together Elvis and Priscilla’s $10,000 breakfast reception was no small feat. The buffet featured roast suckling pig, lobster, Southern fried chicken, and plenty of champagne.

Among the many beautiful photos from Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding day is one special snapshot with the staff that made their entire celebration possible. The happy couple stood front and center, while the staff grouped around them, making sure not to step in front of the six-tier wedding cake.

Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding cake was truly a work of art. The five-foot creation featured bright red roses, and one tier of the cake even had the bride and groom’s names written on it.

According to some reports, the cake cost $3,200, which was more than the cost of the typical Chevrolet at the time. We bet that was a tasty cake!

1. When They Enjoyed Their First Dance

During the reception, Elvis and Priscilla took to the dance floor to share their first dance together as a married couple. All eyes were on them as they danced around the room to one of the most iconic love songs of all time. Elvis and Priscilla shared their first dance to none other than Elvis’ #1 hit from 1956, “Love Me Tender.”

Following the reception, Elvis and Priscilla took off for their honeymoon in Palm Springs. After they returned to Memphis, they threw a huge celebration for their extended group of family and friends that were not at their wedding.

Between their extravagant clothes, glamorous reception, and the beautiful photos, it’s really no surprise why Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding is considered one of the most intriguing in all of history.
