Typically, The Tonight Show is filmed and produced in New York City. But in November 2019, Jimmy Fallon took the show on the road for its first-ever taping on a college campus.

Jimmy and his team made their way to the University of Texas’ Austin campus to tape a special version of The Tonight Show. He received a big Texas welcome, with kxan reporting that 3,000 people attended the taping.

Special guests included rapper Gucci Mane and Texas-born actor Matthew McConaughey, who became a professor for the Department of Radio-Television-Film at UT’s Austin campus.

Jimmy also welcomed Waco natives Chip and Joanna Gaines to the show. The couple became famous for their design and renovation show on HGTV called Fixer Upper.

They have since published books, opened a restaurant, developed a line of home decor products, and recently announced their plans to open a hotel in Waco in 2021.

Since Chip and Jo are so involved in Texas and its culture, they knew they couldn’t let Jimmy leave the Lone Star State without teaching him a Texas tradition…the two-step.

Jo pulled a pair of cowboy hats out from behind the couch and handed them to Chip and Jimmy. Chip told the band to play some country music, then grabbed Jimmy and started in on the two-step.

But Jimmy was overwhelmed, and asked Chip to explain the dance to him. Chip said it was just two fast steps and one slow one, repeated over and over.

Jimmy got the gist after that, and soon he was two-stepping like a pro! Chip ended their dance by spinning Jimmy in a circle.

You can watch their entertaining two-step in the video below. They start talking about the dance around the 4:49 mark.

Who thinks Jimmy should take a trip to a honky tonk to test out his new dance moves?
