Looks like some “congratulations” are in order for Blake Shelton!
In 2001, Shelton scored his first number one hit with his debut single, “Austin.” Many more chart-toppers have followed, including a string of 17 consecutive number ones. With songs such as “God Gave Me You” and “Neon Light,” Shelton has dominated the charts for years.
While Shelton’s clearly no stranger to earning number ones, each new hit is just as exciting as the last. Now, Shelton has a pretty good reason to be excited, because his latest single “Guy With a Girl” just claimed the top spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart!
Shelton revealed the big news on Twitter on Tuesday night (January 17). He made sure to thank everyone who had made the success of “Guy With a Girl” possible.

In a press release, Shelton shared just how much his latest number one means to him. When he heard the news, he knew he had to tell one special person right away:
“The first thing I did when I found out today was call my mom, just like I did with my first and every [number one hit].” he said. “I’ve been in this business long enough to know that a number one single should be celebrated and never taken for granted…I’m just as excited about ‘Guy With A Girl’ going number one as I was ‘Austin.’ So, as always, thanks to country radio and especially the fans for this.“
Shelton’s girlfriend Gwen Stefani was equally excited about the news. Taking to Twitter, she expressed how blown away she was by Shelton’s latest achievement.

“A Guy With a Girl” has been making a steady climb up the charts since its release in September 2016. Written by Ashley Gorely and Scott Hendriks, the song was released as the fourth single off of Shelton’s number one album, If I’m Honest.
Although Shelton didn’t write his latest hit, it’s one he’s easily able to connect to. Speaking to Billboard in November 2016, he said that the song is a reflection of his life right now, particularly his relationship with Stefani.
“Out on the farm or touring, [I’m] that guy, and then at the end of the day, when it’s time to have a life and go to a party or something, I become the guy that’s with Gwen. It’s pretty cool,” he said.
