To the world, she’s Dolly Parton, but to Miley Cyrus, she’s “Aunt Dolly.”

When Cyrus was born in 1992, her country-singin’ dad Billy Ray and mom Tish asked the legendary Dolly Parton to be their daughter’s godmother. Cyrus and Parton share a special bond and has publicly called Parton her “Fairy Godmother,” as well as “Aunt Dolly.”

MusiCares Person Of The Year

Parton has many titles, including Queen of Country, but now she holds a new title – the 2019 MusicCares Person of The Year! Actually, she’s the very first country singer to be given the honor.

According to their website, MusiCares is the Recording Academy’s non-profit organization that “provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.”

At the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, Parton was honored by her friends, peers, and admirer, who sang her hits including “Here You Come Again,” “Not Enough,” “Jolene,” “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind,” “Old Flames (Can’t Hold A Candle To You),” and “Islands In The Stream.”

Of course, a Dolly Parton tribute wouldn’t be complete without the girl she calls “My Miley”!

Cyrus teamed up with pop star, and first-time Grammy nominee, Shawn Mendes for a magical rendition of Parton’s hit with longtime duet partner Kenny Rogers, “Islands In The Stream.” The “Malibu” singer shared a photo and a clip of her performance with Mendes on her Instagram. Not Her First Rodeo

This isn’t Cyrus’ first time performing her “Fairy Godmother’s” iconic song with Kenny Rogers. In October 2017, Cyrus was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for an entire week, and during one of the shows, she and Fallon dressed up as Parton and Rogers to perform the 1983 hit.

Both Mendes and Cyrus got a chance to shine during their solo parts, but the song became truly magical when they joined together in perfect harmony for the chorus.

Parton was loving each and every performance and took to Instagram to thank everyone for such a special evening.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as the @recordingacademy’s @musicares person of the year,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m grateful that so many talented artists and friends came out to perform, present and bid in support of a wonderful cause (lookin’ at you fairy goddaughter @MileyCyrus!)”
