Remembering The Carter Family
John Carter Cash, the only son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, and his wife Ana Cristina Cash gave Loretta a performance of one of her favorite songs, “Keep On The Sunny Side.”
The tune was popularized in the late 20s when folk group, the Carter Family got ahold of it. In later years, Johnny Cash joined on the track for the family’s 1964 album. He later recorded his own version accompanied by June Carter and each of their daughters.

Lynn found significance in the tune as she grew up listening to the Carter Family’s music. In a PBS documentary, Lynn explained
“The Carter Family was the first songs I ever heard.” Lynn continued, “But I remember climbing up on Daddy’s leg and Daddy was playing the old Victrola and playing Carter Family Records.”
Since then, Lynn has become close with the Cash/Carter clan. Furthermore, Johnny and June’s only son, John Carter, has become very close to Lynn. That’s why it was only fitting for John Carter to sing one of her favorites at her big birthday bash.
John Carter and Ana Christina took center stage and began singing an a cappella version of “Keep On The Sunny Side.” Eventually, the band joined in alongside some background vocalists. Their raw performance made it even more special as Lynn watched from side stage front row.
