A Country Christmas Staple

At the age of 13, Brenda Lee stepped into the studio and recorded what has since come to be known as one of the all-time greatest Christmas songs. That song was “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which Lee originally released in 1958.

But believe it or not, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was not much of a success at first. It was released by Lee’s label again the following year, but was a flop yet again.

The song lived up to the saying “the third time’s a charm,” because it took off once it was released for a third time in 1960. Lee’s popularity had increased significantly at that point, which is why the song performed much better that time around.

Brenda’s Failed Song Is Now A Classic

Now, Lee’s rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is one of the best-selling Christmas songs of all time. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008, and at the time it was the fourth most-downloaded Christmas song ever.

As is the case with most classic Christmas songs, many other artists have stepped up to the plate to cover “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” One such artist is LeAnn Rimes, who recorded the song for her 2004 Christmas record, What a Wonderful World.

Rimes’ rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was a hit as well, as it reached the third spot on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It was also a hit on the country chart, on which it reached the 48th spot.

If you’ve never heard Rimes’ version of the song, then you’re in luck, because we have a video of her performing it right here for you to enjoy!

You Need To See This Live

This performance shows Rimes entertaining a jam-packed crowd who gathered to watch her perform on the Airtran Airways Stage, which was all decked out for Christmas. Rimes began performing a delightfully understated rendition of the song, with no one but a single acoustic guitar player to back her up.

But as you’ll soon learn, there was absolutely no need for Rimes to have a full band on the stage with her. She managed to carry the performance all on her own, thanks in large part to her crystal clear vocals.

Rimes’ stage presence also had a positive effect on her performance. She shimmied, grooved, and danced around the stage as she sang, which gave a fun and carefree feeling to the whole thing. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is certainly a fun song to listen to, so we’d say she captured its spirit perfectly!
