In one of the few rare interviews about her marriage, the longtime actress reveals that she cannot believe some of the choices she made.
Having been married to Keith Urban for nearly 10 years now, Nicole Kidman had a life before she met her superstar country-singing Aussie husband…and that life also included another marriage. One she likens to a “mistake” in retrospect.
The 49-year-old award-winning movie star met her first husband on the set of the 1990 movie Days of Thunder. That man was Tom Cruise.
Looking back on that time, Kidman revels in the fact that she made such an important choice so young.
“I was so young when I got married,” Kidman tells Red magazine.“I look back now and I’m like, ‘What?’“
While she has no regrets, her marriage to Cruise lasted more than 10 years which was a large portion of her life. Now, she’s been married to Urban for nearly the same amount of time, but has found much more happiness.
“When you’re older, you’ve been through things, you’ve made mistakes,” she reveals. “So, you come into [a second marriage], still giddy, but wanting it to last. We always consider the ‘us.’ We say, ‘Is this going to be good for us?’ It’s the simplest phrase, but it works.”
They have definitely figured out the key to success as Kidman and Urban have had their share of trials and bumps along the way, but both remain steadfastly dedicated and committed to one another – working through things to become, as she says, “stronger than ever.”
