Elvis and Priscilla Presley ended their marriage in 1973 with a fiery ring of rumors surrounding why. Now, Priscilla is opening up on the details of her marriage to her famed ex-husband. While she urges that she did not leave due to her lack of love for him, she reveals that there was a definite dark side to her life with the King of Rock and Roll.

Priscilla and Elvis met when she was only 14 years old, they married seven years later when she was 21. Entering into a whirlwind romance at such a young age, with the most desired man on the planet, Priscilla admits she lost sight of who she was.

“I lived his life, you didn’t live your own life, so you kind of lost yourself,” Priscilla shared on the British talk show Loose Women. “I didn’t have my teenage years as a normal girl obviously so I had to adapt, and I did adapt, I just followed.”

She went on to admit that she didn’t realize she had lost her identity until Elvis left on tour and she began taking dance classes to help pass the time until his return. Quickly, she noticed that other women in her class had lives of their own apart from their partners. It was a rude awakening as Priscilla felt she had no identity beyond her role as Elvis Presley’s wife.

She found herself living inside a bubble, as she describes.

Elvis did everything with Priscilla, from picking out her clothes to dictating her hairstyle, he left very little room for her be who she chose. Priscilla quickly succumbed to a crippling loneliness leaving her no choice but to leave Elvis in order to find herself.

“I did not divorce him because I didn’t love him, he was the love of my life, but I had to find out about the world,” she said.
