You’ve heard it your whole life. Eat right and exercise, and you will live a long and healthy life.

What if we told you that might not be the case anymore?

A study determining the link between daily habits and life expectancy was recently conducted by the University of California, Irvine. The researchers studied around 1,700 people ages 90-99.

UC Irvine’s 90+ Study, according to their website, “was initiated in 2003 to study the oldest-old, the fastest growing age group in the United States.”

The study was conducted to try and figure out why some people reach the age of 90 and beyond and others do not. Dr. Claudia Kawas’ team of researchers found that people who drank two glasses of wine or beer a day were 18% less likely to pass away before reaching their 90s.

“I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity,” Dr Kawas said at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in 2018.

The Independent reports that the study found that “15 to 45 minutes of daily physical activity also reportedly reduced their risk of an early death by 11 per cent,” which means drinking alcohol has a better chance of getting you to your 90s than exercise does!

Let’s all celebrate with a glass (or two) of your favorite beer or wine!
