Vince Gill and Marty Stuart were two of the most popular country artists during the 1990s. Today, they are both regarded as icons and have served as a source of inspiration to countless other artists.
In addition to being respected vocalists and songwriters, Gill and Stuart are known for their instrumental skills. Since they have so much in common, the two are frequent collaborators.
The talented artists have also won two awards for their work together. In 1993, Gill, Stuart, and various other artists won the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for “Red Wing.” Eight years later, Gill, Stuart, and a new batch of artists won the same award, this time for their rendition of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.”
As you would expect, Gill and Stuart have become close after years of working together. So it only made sense for Stuart to invite Gill to perform on his television program, The Marty Stuart Show. Gill appeared on the show in 2010, and he brought along some of his biggest hits for the occasion.
One of the songs Gill performed was his 1992 single “Take Your Memory with You.” Written by Gill, the song was released as the fourth single off of his album Pocket Full of Gold.
Listeners were able to connect to the narrator’s heartbreaking plea in the song. As he realizes that his lover is leaving him for good, he begs for her to take her memory as well so he doesn’t have to think about how lonely he is.
“Take Your Memory with You” ended up reaching the the second spot on the U.S. country chart. All of these years later, it’s still one of the biggest hits of Gill’s career.
We’re sure you’ve always enjoyed listening to the song, but you’ll like it even more once you watch Gill perform it with Stuart. The two didn’t sing the song as a duet, but Stuart did provide backup for Gill on his guitar.
