Zac Brown Band might be known for their “kick-back” country tunes like “Chicken Fried” but make no mistake, these guys can really rock! During a show in Georgia, the band went full-throttle as they took on one of metal’s most popular bands – Metallica.
Dressed in cowboy hats and denim – the guys brought a whole new meaning to “country-rock” as they stood in front of their screaming fans. Two members of the 8-person band squared off across the stage – each playing classic rock songs on their electric guitars. They even added in a little AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses into the mix.
Finally, the two bandmates come to a meeting point as the iconic intro to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” is played. The crowd becomes tremendously exhilarated and starts screaming at the top of their lungs. The entire time, the full-metal cowboys stay calm and collected while your bones almost shatter listening to their electric performance.
While he might not be James Hetfield, Zac Brown’s howling voice comes across over the booming instruments singing, “Exit light/ Enter night/ Take my hand/ We’re off to Never Never-land.”
Metallica released the haunting song in 1991 and it quickly achieved platinum status – propelling the heavy metal band into international fame. Originally, the lead singer, Hetfield felt that the song sounded too commercial so he formed his dark lyrics around a nightmarish world that terrorizes a family’s dreams.
Zac Brown Band sticks to this frightening theme in their cover performance of the song with smoke and light machines that make the whole thing seem otherworldly. The lights from the stage are almost as blinding as their pure, raw talent that comes through in their performance.
