Congratulations are in order for country singer Randy Rogers and his wife Chelsea.
The lead singer of the Randy Rogers Band revealed on social media that their daughter, Rainey Ryan, joined big sisters River, 3 1/2, and Isabel, 7, on Monday, May 15.
“Little girl is healthy, and Mom and Dad are both so happy,” Rogers tells PEOPLE. “Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Rainey was conceived using in-vitro fertilization two years after they lost newborn daughter Rumer Rain in June 2015. Eight hours after she was born, Rumer was rushed to the NICU to run several tests.
“It was a six-day process. It was heart-wrenching and grueling not knowing what was wrong,” he said. “She was put on a feeding tube pretty early on because she couldn’t eat or swallow, then she decided to stop breathing and we had to put her on a vent.”
After days of testing, the doctors finally figured out what was wrong with Rumer. She had a rare, genetic disorder called nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), which affects 1 in 66,000 newborns in the United States and has no cure. After a heartbreaking fight, Rumer passed away just 6 days old.
Randy and Chelsea felt in their hearts that they were destined to be parents to more children, so after a while, they started genetic testing, genetic screening and in-vitro. Heartbreak turned to happiness when they announced they were pregnant again in March.
“Baby due May 19 — another little girl. Fingers crossed,” he told Taste of Country.
“I’m gonna have an all-girl band — make them do some punk rock or something,” he once said of having three daughters.
Just a hunch, but Rainey may be named after her sister and guardian angel, Rumer Rain. Randy previously revealed they were thinking of naming her Rebel, Remy, or Randi.
Congratulations to the Rogers family, and welcome to the world, Rainey!
