Brandon Sklenar Shares What He Knows About The Ending Of 1923’s Second Season
Season 2 of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 just premiered, but one of the stars has known about its ending since he started working on the first season.
Brandon Sklenar plays one of 1923‘s main characters, Spencer Dutton. Spencer is the youngest son of James and Margaret Dutton (played by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill in the previous prequel series, 1883).
As an adult, Spencer served in the Army during World War I, then known as the Great War. Later, he utilizes his skills as an excellent marksman by hunting down dangerous predators in Africa. He eventually meets a British woman named Alexandra, and they fall in love.
One day, Spencer receives a heartbreaking letter that his old brother, John, had been killed back home in Montana. His aunt, Cara, calls for him to return home and help protect his family.
Spencer begins his journey home and quickly marries Alexandra on a boat. But Season 1 of 1923 ended with them being separated, with Alexandra vowing to reunite with him in Montana.
Fans were hopeful that Alexandra and Spencer would be together again when Season 2 of 1923 premiered on Sunday (February 23). But unfortunately, the season opens with the two lovebirds still fighting their way back to each other.
We won’t spoil that episode here, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you can keep reading without worry. But we’ve got you covered if you would like a full recap of Season 2, Episode 1.
What Does Brandon Sklenar Know About The Future Episodes Of 1923?
While fans anxiously wait to see what happens to Spencer, Alexandra, and the other characters in 1923, Brandon Sklenar has mostly known what happens to them since he started the show.
The actor recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the series’ second season. During their interview, Sklenar revealed that 1923 creator Taylor Sheridan filled him in on the ending of Season 2 when they were shooting Season 1.
“…I knew before we left to shoot season one ultimately where this was going,” Sklenar said. “He kind of told me, not the specifics of what as going to happen, but he told me. I’ve always known to some degree how it was going to wrap up at the end of season two.“
Sklenar said having that knowledge was valuable because it helped him know where Spencer needed to be “emotionally and physically.”
“You’re playing this cat-and-mouse game and it’s kind of this magic trick where you’re like, how do I just open the window a little bit into letting the audience see what’s in there, but not letting it out fully because I have to save that?” he said.
While there have been reports that 1923 will end for good after Season 2, Sklenar says “they haven’t confirmed” that fact. But he still spoke about the Season 2 finale, saying:
“It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read in my life, truly. I’m not just saying that, people say that. It’s genuinely, crazy beautiful.”
Based on a recent video 1923 shared on social media, it must have been a challenge for Sklenar to keep the ending to himself!
