Before Meeting On ‘The Voice,’ Gwen Stefani Didn’t Know Who Blake Shelton Was

A little over five years ago, Gwen Stefani began her very first season of The Voice, joining Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton in the iconic red chairs.

At the time, she was married to Gavin Rossdale and it was four months after she gave birth to her son Apollo.

Since then, a lot has changed for Stefani, especially in her personal life. She’s in a long-term relationship with fellow coach Blake Shelton, whom she met on the show. Since divorcing Rossdale, she appeared on the show a few more times, but never when she and Shelton were this deep into their relationship.

While doing her press rounds in the fall of 2019 promoting the premiere week of Season 17 of The Voice, Stefani did an interview with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show to talk about the show, and of course, he asked about her relationship with Shelton.

While they seem like an unlikely pair…they know they are!

Stefani grew up in a garage band singing rock and ska music, while Shelton was a certified country star, releasing his first single ten years before The Voice premiered in 2011. In fact, Stefani didn’t even know who Shelton was before meeting him in 2014 on the set of The Voice!

“I didn’t even know he existed before the show,” Stefani admits to Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM Radio Andy show. “I didn’t even know that he was a human being on this planet.”

Since they met, they both went through public divorces and have been together for four years. They’ve also recorded two songs together, one being “Go Ahead And Break My Heart.” Watch them perform it below.
