A Knockout Voice Star
The knockout rounds of The Voice are when contestants really crank things up a notch with their performances. We got the chance to see some outstanding talent during Season 12 of the show, particularly from Team Blake.
Country singer Casi Joy was a standout star on the show from the beginning of the season. She first found her way on The Voice with her soaring cover of LeAnn Rimes‘ breakout hit, “Blue.”
All four coaches turned their chairs, and she decided to keep it country by picking Shelton as her coach.
Continuing To Stand Out
Joy further proved herself in the battle rounds, when she faced off against fellow country singer Ashley Levin on Reba McEntire‘s “How Blue.” Both singers made a huge impression on the coaches, leaving Shelton with a tough choice to make. He ended up naming Joy as the winner of the battle, while Levin was stolen by Alicia Keys.
When the knockouts finally rolled around, Joy knew that she had to come out with a bang. Her spot on The Voice and her chance to go into the live shows counted on it. So she decided to sing a song that is both popular and challenging…Maren Morris‘ “My Church.”
Shelton was a big fan of Joy’s song choice. “It gives her the chance to really solidify the fact that she’s a little edgier version of a country artist,” he said.
She Poured The Passion Into It
We definitely got the chance to see that edgy side to Joy during her knockout performance. She powered through the song with unbridled passion, leaving the coaches in awe of her talent. The crowd was up on its feet in an instant, and started clapping and swaying along as Joy continued to nail her performance.
The song gave Joy the chance to play around stylistically as well, which really showcased her talent as a singer.
At times she would growl through notes, while other times she would sing in a soft, hushed tone. Her versatility as an artist was showcased splendidly in this performance, proving that she has what it takes to win the whole thing.
Clearly Shelton felt the same, because he picked Joy as the winner in her knockout between her and Felicia Temple. You’ll be able to see why she won once you watch her cover of “My Church” below. Let us know what you think of it when you’re done!
