A family from the Coromandel Valley in Australia left their house for just a few hours and returned to find a wild koala in the living room perched at the top of their Christmas tree.
Homeowner Amanda McCormick said when she opened the front door her dog ran straight for the Christmas tree and started sniffing around. She followed and noticed many of the ornaments were scattered across the floor and then looked up to see the koala staring at her.
“I could not believe it, I was in shock. It was right in my face.” McCormick told ABC. “I thought ‘Is this a joke?’ I thought one of my kids may have put like a soft toy in there, but no, it was a live one.”
McCormick mentioned that her daughter left the door open while they were gone so the dog could easily come in and out of the house. That must have been how it got inside. She called wildlife rescuers to come get the koala and they thought she was prank calling them. After a while of convincing them that this was not a joke, they finally sent someone.
“It was pretty tangled up in the lights. It was a fake tree and very old but she still tried eating the leaves off it. I saw her munch down on some but she stopped when she realised it was plastic,” McCormick added.
Photos of the koala were shared on a Facebook page called 1300Koalaz and showed just how adorable the koala looked perched up in the tree. You can take a look at that post below.
