*FULL SPOILERS* It Is Time To Dive Into Another Explosive Episode Of Landman
Let’s start at the end because this week’s episode of Landman ended with another explosion, this one promising retribution.
To fully understand the severity of this week’s episode of Landman, we have to go back to the first episode of the series. In the premier episodes, a drug cartel steals an airplane owned by Monty Miller, an oil executive and the boss of the series’ main character, Tommy Norris.
The cartel then accidentally crashed the plane filled with drugs on Monty’s land. The oil company and the drug cartel have never had a good relationship, but they did have an understanding before the accident. They would stay out of each other’s way. That rocky relationship crumbled after the crash.
However illogical it might sound, the cartel boss blamed Monty and Tommy for his loss of revenue and threatened them. He required the full cost of the drugs in cash, or he would kill them.
As you might imagine, Tommy refused.
In Episode 7 of Landman, Tommy finds a temporary solution to his problem by hiring local thugs to work at the oil field. Not only are they involved in mining, but they are also armed and prepared for trouble. This proves useful when the cartel arrives to collect the money and encounters around twenty armed men. The cartel retreats but promises to return.
This brings us back to Episode 8 and what happened this week.
Tommy recruits the National Guard to conduct training drills on the oil field to deter the cartel. Unfortunately, during their exercises, they accidentally kill an entire truckload of cartel members and destroy their drugs.
This could mean war.

What About Tommy’s Family?
Besides the potential war with the drug cartels, this week’s episode was full of interesting developments on the family front.
Starting with Cooper’s relationship with Ariana.
Cooper moved into Ariana’s house after he was severely beaten. While living there, he became involved in discussions regarding Ariana’s settlement. Earlier in the season, Ariana’s husband died in the oil fields.
Now, the oil company Cooper and Ariana’s late husband worked for, has returned to meet with Ariana and offer her financial compensation.
Ariana was offered a generous settlement but was unsure whether to accept it. Cooper encouraged her to reject the offer and countered for one million dollars. They eventually secured the settlement, but in the meantime, Cooper forfeited his job.
He also faced threats from the oil company’s new aggressive lawyer, Rebecca Falcone, who insinuated that he may have had some involvement in the explosion that killed Ariana’s husband.
What about the Norris women?
Angela, Tommy’s ex-wife and current girlfriend, showed a softer side of herself in the previous episode by entertaining a group of elderly men and women at a retirement home. She revisits them and takes them bowling. This softer side is new for the character, and the men in her life are unsure what to do with it.
Besides her moment with the nursing home residents and a yelling match with Tommy, Angela has a lighter presence in this episode.
Angela and Tommy’s daughter, Ainsley, goes on another date with the boy she met in the previous episode.
Also, Monty Miller suffered his fifth heart attack.
