Performing at anyone’s funeral is a difficult task, but when award-winning Christian singer Michael English’s father passed away in 2014, there wasn’t even a question as to who would perform at the funeral.
“My dad fought cancer for years, so this song was so appropriate for his funeral,” English said while introducing Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain”.
Fighting back tears from the very first note, English managed to perform a wonderful tribute to his father. Every so often, he would look up, as if he were singing to his dad in Heaven.
Gill began writing “Go Rest High” after country legend Keith Whitley passed away in 1989, but did not finish it until his brother Bob died of a heart attack in 1993. It has been played at countless funerals and is a heartbreakingly beautiful tribute for those who have passed on.
English poured every emotion he had into this performance and we imagine that there wasn’t a dry eye in the place by the end of it.
We aren’t quite sure how he didn’t completely break down in tears while delivering a truly flawless performance. We know his dad would be very proud of him. Watch the beautiful tribute below.
