The Plymouth Police Department has reported that the long search for Buddy the Beefalo is now over.
“We would like to thank all those would brought this adventure to a successful resolution,” Plymouth Police Department wrote on Facebook.
Buddy was a name given to the beefalo by Plymouth police who have been after him. Buddy is a cattle-bison hybrid that was born, raised, and bred for his meat and was expected to spend his last days in a slaughterhouse. However, he escaped the meat processing facility in Plymouth, Connecticut, and has been on the run ever since.
For over eight months he’s been evading authorities as much as possible and staying out of sight. Throughout the winter, residents have left food out to feed him and that appears to have helped him make it through the cold.
“His capture was the result of a community effort from spotting him, feeding him throughout the winter and to the experts who were able to make the final capture,” Plymouth Police Department wrote.
Officials say buddy will be heading to Massachusetts for a full veterinary exam. After that, he will be transported to Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary in Gainesville, Florida where he’ll live out the rest of his days with other cattle in peace.
“Thank you for all your continued support and we wish Buddy safe travels and happy life,” Plymouth Police Department added.
