Since that day, the eldest child of the late Steve Irwin has been slowly revealing their wedding plans, and it seemed like they were in the planning process right away! A few days after the engagement, she spoke with Entertainment Tonight and revealed how she planned on honoring her father, who died when she was just eight years old.

For starters, she said her younger brother, Robert, would be walking her down the aisle in their father’s place. She believes that’s exactly what Steve would have wanted:

I’m always so grateful that Robert is there, and he has been such a big part of my life and he’s always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I need it and encourage me forward in life,” Bindi said. “So he will definitely be the one to walk me down the aisle when the time comes, and I think that will make it really special.”

As for the traditional father-daughter dance, Bindi said that if she were going to do one, she would dance with her mom, Terri.

I think, if I was going to do a dance, it would be with my mom,” Bindi said. “My mom and I are so close. She’s my pillar of strength in life and I love her beyond description.”

Months of planning go into a wedding and the date Bindi and Chandler chose so long ago happened to fall right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, where most people in the world are in self-isolation and quarantine. Instead of postponing their wedding like most couples are doing, Bindi and Chandler decided to go forward with their wedding on Wednesday (March 25).

In an Instagram post, Bindi revealed the news and assured her fans that there were no guests present at the wedding.

We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding,” she wrote.

She continued, saying they made that decision to make sure everyone was safe. They took lots of pictures and videos so friends and family could enjoy the day with them as well.

Bindi also said, “Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory.”

Because they all live at the Australia Zoo together, they were also able to be together on this special day.

Chandler commented on his bride’s post saying it is the best day of his life, while Robert said, “It truly was an emotional and beautifully spontaneous day… I know that Dad was with us, and we are all so delighted for your future as husband and wife” on his own Instagram.

Congratulations to Bindi and Chandler!
