Blake Shelton better watch his back! Returning for the 14th season of The Voice, Alicia Keys is out for blood. Specifically, Blake’s. Keys last appeared as a coach on The Voice in Season 12 alongside Shelton, Adam Levine, and Gwen Stefani. Team Alicia’s Chris Blue won the competition, beating out Team Blake’s finalists Lauren Duski and Aliyah Moulden.
During the season Keys took off, Shelton won with Chloe Kohanski, but now that she is back, she’s hoping history will repeat itself and will stop at nothing to make it happen.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Keys said, “I have to come back and put him in his place, man.”
“I really like Blake a lot and we get along so well,” she continued. “He was just so crushed that I beat him so thoroughly when I did. I hope to be able to experience that again.”
She also said that although he is competitive throughout the entire season, he takes it to another level during the finals.
“He is slightly crazy right until the end,” she joked. “Like, it’s at the end that he starts to become this secret villain that’s trying to win,” and added that no one can calm him down, not even girlfriend Gwen Stefani.
“No one can save him,” she says. “He’s unsavable.”
It didn’t take the country singer long to come back with a diss. Thursday (Jan. 25) is Keys’ birthday and her fellow Voice coaches wanted to wish her a “Happy Birthday,” so they all recorded messages for the “Girl On Fire” singer.
“I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday,” Shelton said. “I’m so glad you’re here. I still stand by what I say — you’re the worst coach we’ve ever had on The Voice.”
He continued, “Even though you’re my arch enemy on the show, you’re one of my favorite people in the world. I love you.”
They may play hard, but these Voice coaches love even harder. On screen they may be mortal enemies, vying for the same coveted prize, but off-screen, they are great friends.
