Carly Pearce Shares An Update About Her Health Nearly One Year After Her Heart Disease Diagnosis

In May of last year, Carly Pearce revealed that she had been diagnosed with pericarditis after experiencing persistent chest pains.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs when the thin, saclike tissue surrounding the heart becomes swollen and irritated.

Since then, Pearce has kept her concerned fans updated as she navigates through her health journey. A month after revealing her diagnosis, she shared a health update, and most recently. she opened up about her experience during an episode of the Today Show.

During her appearance, Pearce told the hosts that her health scare began when she had “debilitating” chest pains that only eased when she bent over a certain way. She explained that in those moments, the pain would intensify whenever she lay back.

“That’s a classic symptom of pericarditis, Pearce said. “I had that and just a really intense shortness of breath, like almost having to suck through a straw.”

Although the last few months have been challenging, the “What He Didn’t Do” singer said she is doing well now but is still taking things day by day.

“I’m healthy and I’m trying to find my new normal,” she said. “I have what’s called recurrent pericarditis, I’ve had several flares since 2020.”

In her previous health update, Pearce mentioned that her performances would likely look different, as she now has to adjust her stage routines to keep her heart rate steady. This has led her to focus on finding more “balance” while performing night after night.

“I just have to maintain balance more..trying to figure out ways to keep my mind and my body more calm.”

Pearce also hopes to use her experience to be a voice for others who may be facing similar health challenges.

“It’s something for me, as a woman, somebody who’s young, who’s an avid runner and takes care of themselves, I really do want to raise awareness that you are your best advocate.”
