Football fans across the country rejoiced when Sunday Night Football kicked off on Sunday (September 8). It’s a milestone year for the NFL, as it marks the league’s 100th season.
To celebrate, Sunday Night Football announced on August 20 that it would debut a new theme song featuring the combined talents of Carrie Underwood and rock legend Joan Jett.

Underwood has served as the voice behind the Sunday Night Football theme since 2013. She started off singing the famous theme “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which is a play off of Jett’s song “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
After singing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” for three years, Underwood debuted a new theme called “Oh, Sunday Night,” which was a reworking of her hit duet with Miranda Lambert, “Something Bad.”
Underwood introduced another new theme in 2018, titled “Game On.”

With the NFL celebrating its 100th season this year, the Sunday Night Football team thought it was the perfect time to bring back its most iconic theme, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Underwood was the one who thought of bringing Jett on board, and thankfully, she agreed to participate!
In doing so, Jett is now the oldest Sunday Night Football theme song singer, at the age of 60.
Underwood and Jett’s new Sunday Night Football theme was previewed during a preseason game on August 25. After a two-week wait, the full theme finally debuted before the Patriots and Steelers game on September 8.

The theme starts with Underwood leading the charge, as she kicks things off while singing backstage. Clips of Underwood singing are woven in with footage of NFL stars, commentators, cheerleaders, and reporters.
Eventually, Underwood unites with Jett on stage in a massive arena to rock out to the remainder of the theme. You can check it out in the video below.
We always loved Underwood’s Sunday Night Football themes, but it’s awesome to hear her sing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” again. And it makes it even better that Jett was there to sing with her!
