Soon after her American Idol win in 2005, Carrie Underwood surprised Brad Paisley fans at one of his concerts in 2006 when she joined the country crooner on stage for a chilling duet of the heartbreaking tune “Whiskey Lullaby.”
A Brad Paisley Staple
At a performance in Chicago, Paisley sat center stage on a lone stool, strumming his guitar, and singing the emotional song made famous by both himself and the multi-talented Alison Krauss.
“Whiskey Lullaby” was a masterful creation by country legend Bill Anderson and Jon Randall. Released in 2004 on Paisley’s Mud on the Tires album, the song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singers & Tracks chart. It’s certified 2x Platinum and won the 2005 CMA Song of the Year Award.
A Wonderful Substitute
As soon as it was time for Krauss’ part of the song, Underwood stepped out into the spotlight to adoring (and screaming) fans. What a great surprise! To have both Paisley and Underwood on the same stage? It only produces magic, just like their 2011 duet, “Remind Me,” which hit #1 on the Billboard charts and won several awards.
It seems that whenever Underwood and Paisley get together, their audience is instantly mesmerized by their onstage chemistry, which is often so hard to find.
