Eric Church Drops New Album “Evangeline vs. the Machine”

On May 2, Eric Church dropped his new album, Evangeline vs. the Machine, which features eight tracks.

Although this new project is shorter than some of his past releases,  Church made sure to include just as much meaning to it as he always does. In a press release shared on his official website, he describes the album as a “snapshot” of his life at the moment.

“An album is a snapshot in time that lasts for all time,” Church said. “I believe in that time-tested tradition of making records that live and breathe as one piece of art – I think it’s important,” he added.

According to the 10-time Grammy-nominated artist, the new album is unlike anything he’s ever done before.

Even with more than 20 years of music under his belt, Church says it’s important to him that each project feels different from the last. He believes in always giving fans something unexpected.

“The people that I look up to in my career and the kind of musicians I gravitate to never did what I thought they were going to do next – and I love them for it,” Church said. “I never want our fans to get an album and go, ‘Oh, that’s like Chief or that’s like this.’ Painstakingly, I lose sleep at night to try to make sure that whatever we do creatively, they go, ‘Wow, that’s not what I thought.’ I think that’s my job as an artist.”

Over the past few months, Church has given fans an early listen to what would appear on the new album. One track they’re already familiar with is “Darkest Hour,” which he originally released to support hurricane relief efforts after Hurricane Helene.

He even signed over all rights and royalties from the song to make sure that any money made from the track will go directly to those in need.
