Gabby Barrett Releases New Single, “Ain’t Supposed To Be”

Today, October 3, country artist and American Idol alumna Gabby Barrett released a new song, “Ain’t Supposed To Be.”

Writing on Youtube ahead of the song’s release, Gabby said, “Didn’t plan on dropping this one so soon… but I had to.”

This comes just a few months after the release of her single “The Easy Part,” as well as her duet with fellow Christian artist Brandon Lake, “As For Me & My Home,” which was included as a bonus track on the “Full Deck Deluxe” version of his album King Of Hearts.

Listen To “Ain’t Supposed To Be”

Last year, Gabby released her second studio album, Chapter & Verse, which saw her express more of her Christian faith through her music.

“Ain’t Supposed To Be” continues in that direction, with Gabby singing of a love that only God could make possible.

With a title that would lead someone to think the song would be about things that aren’t supposed to be, instead, thanks to God’s sovereignty, the song can be about faith and hope.

Whether it’s “wildflowers growing through the cracks of the concrete” or “a new flame catchin’ in the middle of a hard rain,” Gabby sings:

“Lookin’ back, it had to be a God thing that I found you, and you found me, and we found love where it ain’t supposed to be.”

Gabby Barrett And Cade Foehner Talk About Faith And Love

Ahead of the release of this song, Gabby and her husband, singer Cade Foehner, were on The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast.

There, on the September 24 episode, they walked listeners through their personal love story, which saw them meet on Season 16 of American Idol.

While they discuss how they fell in love, an important piece to the puzzle of their relationship is their Christian faith,

Cade grew up in a Christian household, attending a non-denominational church with his parents.

Speaking of her own upbringing, Gabby said, “I went to Catholic school, but I just never was like a Bible reader — I went to Catholic school, but I never had a Bible … and I didn’t grow up in a particular religious family.”

While on American Idol together, Cade gave Gabby a Bible.

“I met Cade, he really introduced me to the Gospel, the message of the Gospel, the Bible, and reading the Bible,” she said. “At 18, I was saved from the Bible that [Cade] gave me.”

She added, “Our journey’s been interesting. God’s been guiding it the whole way.”
