Garth Brooks is a six-time CMA Entertainer of the Year with seven diamond albums and remains the best-selling solo albums artist in the country. He is second only to the Beatles in total album sales overall. With that much success, it’s no surprise that he has almost 20 number one hits on the Billboard Country chart.
Even though he did retire for some years in the 2000s, he still remained the best-selling country act of all time. In 2014, he debuted Man Against Machine, his first album since 2001 and went on a world tour to coincide with the release. The tour was a smash hit and he’s been on it for three whole years!
While on tour, he managed to record another album, titled Gunslinger, which was available in the fall of 2016. So far, he has released two singles from that record, with the second being his most popular single in a decade. “Ask Me How I Know” was dropped as a single in March 2017 and spent the majority of the year climbing the chart, finally reaching the number one spot on the chart dated Dec. 16.
Brooks couldn’t be happier, especially for the song’s writer Mitch Rossell. It was his very first song to be cut, and we’d say it was a success!
“I’m so proud of the Pearl Records team for working so hard for this No. 1,” Brooks said in a press release, according to Taste of Country. “Congrats to Mitch Rossell on his first cut…so happy for you, pal! And to country radio…four decades later, thanks for still believing. I’m humbled and very grateful.”
Along with celebrating his first number one in ten years, he has also now managed to score the top spot on the charts in four different decades. “If Tomorrow Never Comes” went number one in 1989, he had many number ones in the 1990s, “More Than a Memory” hit number one in 2007, and “Ask Me How I Know” accounts for the 2010 decade.
What an incredible feat! Let’s celebrate this huge accomplishment by listening to his latest number one song, “Ask Me How I Know,” below.
