Learning To Love The People In Joey + Rory’s Life
As fans fell in love with Joey + Rory through the years, they also fell in love with the people in their lives. Friends such as Russell the bus driver and singer Bradley Walker became beloved by all who kept up with the couple’s journey through Rory’s blog, This Life I Live.
Of course, followers also fell in love with the couples’ three daughters, Heidi, Hopie, and Indy.

Rory had Heidi and Hopie in a previous relationship, but Joey treated them as her own. Little Indy is the couple’s only child together, and was born on February 17, 2014.
We’ve All Watched Her Journey
Soon after Indy was born, Joey + Rory learned that she had Down Syndrome. They knew the road ahead would be a challenging one for their baby girl.
But as we now know, she has conquered every challenge that has been tossed her way.
Of course, it wouldn’t have been possible for Indy to accomplish what she has without the support of the people that love her. Over the years her parents, sisters, teachers, and friends have all helped her learn and grow.
These treasured people have also brought great happiness to her life during times of great sorrow. Perhaps no person more so than her young friend Scout.

Indy + Scout, Friends To The End
If you’ve been following Joey + Rory’s journey for a while, then you’ve seen Scout in numerous pictures with Indy online. The little girl was twice Indy’s age, but that didn’t stop them from becoming best friends.
The two of them did everything together, once traveling to Disney World with Rory, Heidi, and Hopie.

Like Indy, Scout’s life journey was also challenging one. She was diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue.
Joey + Rory tried to do their part to help Scout and children like her through their 2016 album, Hymns That Are Important to Us. Some of the proceeds from the album’s deluxe edition were donated to the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation, which Joey personally chose as the charity to donate the funds to.
Some Sad News To Share
After watching Scout grow alongside Indy through the years, many were devastated when Rory broke the sad news on Monday (January 7) that Scout had passed away just two days prior. She was only nine years old.
“Our family and community is broken hearted over the sudden loss this weekend of nine-year-old Scout McCauley who is Indiana’s first best friend and a special part of our life and story,” Rory wrote, alongside several photos of Scout, a couple by herself and a couple with Indy.

Heidi also acknowledged the young girl’s passing on social media, sharing a series of photos of the two of them together. It’s clear that Heidi is heartbroken over losing Scout, as she wrote, “I am beyond devastated, as is everyone who knew her.”
Both Heidi and Rory ended their posts by sharing the link to a GoFundMe page for Scout’s family.
