The Country Artist Shared His Concern For The Nation Following Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Since the September 10 killing of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, country singer Jason Aldean, and his wife Brittany, have been very outspoken in how this act of violence has affected them.

Together, the couple sang Luke Bryan’s “Drink a Beer” in honor of Charlie, and Aldean shared a photo of them with Charlie on his Instagram.

During a show in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 26, Aldean introduced his polarizing hit song, “Try That In A Small Town,” by speaking out about the killing of Charlie Kirk.

There, he told the crowd:

“It’s been a very weird couple of weeks, and, I don’t know, I think when things like that happen, like what happened to Charlie, I think you start to see kinda some s****y people raise their heads up, you start to see who’s who, who thinks like they do and who doesn’t think like we do.”

To this, the audience resoundingly applauded and cheered.

Jason Aldean Says He’ll “Buy A Bus Ticket” For People Who Support The Killing Of Charlie Kirk

Continuing his remarks on Charlie Kirk, Aldean said, “It’s a sad day in the country when a guy gets murdered for being a Christian conservative, out there talkin’ about the Bible and what’s right and what’s wrong.”

He added, “Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure that’s what our country was founded on: those kind of values … If you don’t fear God, you don’t fear anybody.”

Aldean, who was performing to an open-air crowd in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017, has seen violence firsthand. At that show, 60 people were killed and 867 were injured after a gunman fired over 1,000 rounds from a hotel room overlooking the venue.

While on the Armchair Expert podcast on September 1, Aldean reflected on the 2017 shooting, saying:

“It’s easier to talk about now. At the time it wasn’t because you’re still trying to comprehend what had just happened… You know, my bass player, my best friend for the last 25 years, his bass had a bullet lodged in it that he was wearing when we were on stage. For our little family, our little crew, we got so lucky, not one injury to any of our guys. And you’re happy about that, but then you’re like, feel guilty to be happy about there’s like this guilt-ridden thing.”

Resuming his remarks in light of the killing of Charlie Kirk, he then told the Alabama crowd, “So it’s pretty simple, man, if you want to live in this country, just play by the rules. Be good people, respect everybody, love everybody, and if you don’t want to do that, I’ll buy you a bus ticket and you can get the f*** out and go wherever you want!”

Saying that he’s had “about enough of this s***,” Aldean said, “We lost a really good one a couple weeks ago, Mr. Charlie Kirk.”

He went on to describe Charlie, who founded Turning Point USA when he was 18, as “one of the best people ever,” stating, “I don’t know, it’s just a crazy deal when people are celebrating that kind of thing.”

From there, he then introduced “Try That In A Small Town,” noting how the song was misconstrued by many when it first came out in 2023.
