Jennifer Nettles had some sad news to share with her fans on Father’s Day (June 19) this year. The Sugarland member shared the news that her father, Beamon Nettles, passed away on May 14.
“I’m often private about certain sacred pieces of my life and I share them as, and if, I am ready,” Jennifer wrote. “My daddy, Beamon Nettles, died last month on May 14th.”
Jennifer remembered her father as “a precious, quiet soul who made his way gently in the world.” She still finds it hard to believe he is no longer here.
In honor of her dad, Jennifer wanted to share a performance of his favorite song on Father’s Day. His favorite song was Merle Haggard‘s “The Way I Am.”
“I have a vivid memory of him playing it on 45, singing along as I fell asleep at my grandmother’s (“Boo-ma”) house,” Jennifer recalled.
Jennifer said she sang “The Way I Am” at her father’s funeral.
She ended her Father’s Day message by writing, “Happy Father’s Day Daddy. You are loved and missed. Hold your Loves close. I hope everyone had a beautiful day. And thank you to all the fathers out there.”
