Saying Goodbye To A Legend In Country Music
For over three decades, John Michael Montgomery has been a defining voice in country music.
From his first album in 1992 to a number of chart-topping hits, Montgomery’s heartfelt lyrics and classic sound have provided him with worldwide fame.
Montgomery’s hits like “I Swear,” “I Love the Way You Love Me,” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” became timeless classics, solidifying his reputation as one of the most influential country artists of the ’90s.

John Michael Montgomery To Perform Once More
Now with just days to go before his final show, Montgomery has a message for fans who have been so loyal to him throughout his career.
“I appreciate everything and all these years,” the country star reflected in an Instagram video. “It’s all about the fans for me anyway. You know, it ain’t about Nashville. It ain’t about any of that stuff for me.”
The 60-year-old final concert is set to take place on Friday December 12 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
“For me, it’s always been about getting onstage and watching the people enjoy what I do, and to be able to do this for a living for as long as I’ve been a kid growing up in the music business and to be where I’m able to be at today … it’s only because there were people out there that came to see me or I’d be without a job.”
Montgomery has been sharing for over a year that 2025 would mark his final tour, and he’s bringing his career full circle by ending it where it all began.
“I stepped on a tour bus for the first time in 1992 and haven’t looked back since,” Montgomery said. “But now it’s time to bring it all back home for my last concert — and I can’t think of a better place than Rupp Arena.”
His retirement comes the same year he became a grandfather to a precious little girl, Charlotte Lane Denning. Little Charlotte was born in July, and the very first song she ever heard was none other than Montgomery’s 1994 hit “Rope the Moon.”
“Rope the Moon” is not only a classic of the country singer’s, it is also special in the family as it is dedicated to Charlotte’s mama, and Montgomery’s daughter, Madison every time he performs it.
Charlotte is the country music star’s first grandchild, and Madison is his only daughter. He also has a son, Walker Montgomery, with his wife, Crystal.
John often posts about his family on social media, sharing darling photos of him and Crystal throughout the years, as well as the children.
