The longtime singer has recently canceled a series of shows after battling with a hip injury that just isn’t going away. He also underwent surgery to fix it.
In a post to social media, John Prine revealed that he would be stopping his tour to focus on his own recovery from surgery ahead of his April 26th show at MerleFest.
The Prine family said in the statement that his current touring activities had aggravated his hip injury and that he needed to take a step back to rest and recover from recent hip surgery but was looking forward to the MerleFest appearance.
“From the Prine Family: We truly regret to inform you that John will be taking a break from touring, as being on the road has aggravated a hip injury. For those who have purchased tickets to any of the affected shows, the venue will have more specific information.
John will be looking forward to being back on the road at Merle Fest on April 26th.
Head to John’s official FB page for more information.”
Most of the shows he canceled were across the pond in the United Kingdom and also in Australia.

In a story posted to his Instagram, John thanks everyone for their well wishes and says that everything went great with the surgery.
“Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes – everything went well with the hip surgery and I just need to rest up a little more before I can get back to doing what I love – playing shows. -John”
Just last summer Prine had also rescheduled a few dates so that he could have a stent procedure completed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with John Prine as he works to recover from this hip injury! We can’t wait to see him back on the stage again.
