In one of the most anticipated performances of the night, Entertainer of the Year nominees Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood took to the ACMs with their hit duet, “The Fighter.” Following the duo’s crowd-pleasing performance of their duet at the Grammy Awards, everyone knew they Urban and Underwood would bring their A-Game to the ACMs.
“The Fighter” has a more extensive history behind it than many people realize. While the song is currently a hit single for both Urban and Underwood, it actually entered the charts once before.
Within a week after Urban’s album Ripcord had debuted, “The Fighter” had sold a total of 25,000 copies. It wasn’t even a single at the time, but the fans’ enthusiasm sent it soaring all the way to the 11th spot on the country chart. It caught on further after a video went viral of Urban lip syncing the song with his wife, actress Nicole Kidman.
Urban and Underwood finally released “The Fighter” as a single on February 6. Less than a week later, the two performed “The Fighter” during the Grammy Awards, and earned great praise for the performance. They released the music video for the song that same night, and it is currently one of the most popular videos in country music right now.
With so much hype around the song, everyone was anxiously waiting for Urban and Underwood’s performance of it at the ACMs…and they didn’t disappoint!
Following a jazzy performance of his smash hit “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” Urban broke out into the beginning of “The Fighter.” Underwood was waiting in the wings, and suddenly emerged on stage to the roars of the crowd.
Wearing a sparkly fringe dress, Underwood showed off some of her dance moves just like she did in the music video for “The Fighter.” But Underwood wasn’t the only one dancing. Country duo Big & Rich could be seen busting a move to the tune, and Kidman was grooving along as well.
Urban and Underwood’s duet was hands down one of the best performances of the night! You can relive their performance in the video below!
