In the summer of 2020, Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband of nearly seven years, Brandon Blackstock. Since then, the Voice coach has been extremely open about her split.

She addressed the topic on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, saying:

What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart, it involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids and divorce is never easy. We’re both from divorced families. We know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”

Kelly and Brandon share two kids, River and Remington, and Kelly grew close to Brandon’s two kids from his previous relationship, Savannah and Seth.

In the months that have passed since Kelly filed for divorce, she has been granted primary physical custody of River and Remington. People cited court documents that detail why this decision was made:

The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody.

On top of all this, Kelly and Brandon have been involved in a messy legal battle. She was sued by her management company Starstruck Management Group, which alleged that Kelly owed them $1.4 million. This pertains to Kelly’s divorce because Starstruck was founded by Brandon’s father, Narvel, and Brandon was also serving as Kelly’s manager through the company.

Kelly then filed a countersuit claiming Brandon had defrauded and overcharged her. Brandon then filed additional court documents to dispute her allegations.

As you could imagine, these conflicts surely make it challenging for Kelly and Brandon to co-parent River and Remington. She recently opened up about these challenges while speaking with Khloe Kardashian, who was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show:

It’s tough…” she said. “I know with me and Brandon, it’s just a difficult thing because we’re in different places, and it’s like, we both agree on the main things, but it’s a hard thing when you’re not together all the time, for me personally.”

After listening to Khloe talk about how she handles co-parenting her daughter, True, with Tristan Thompson, Kelly spoke a little more about how she and Brandon co-parent their own kids.

As long as you make sure it’s about the children and their best interests, then we’re both on board,” she said.

Even though Kelly and Brandon are going through a tough time right now, it’s encouraging to see they’re trying their best to look out for their kids. We wish them well.
