On Tuesday, May 2, it was reported that Christine Baumgartner, the wife of Kevin Costner, had filed for divorce on May 1, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to TMZ.

Kevin and Christine first met in 1996 during the filming of Tin Cup and rekindled their relationship in 1998, leading to a romantic connection. The couple tied the knot in September 2004 and have three children together: Cayden (15), Hayes (14), and Grace (12). Kevin also has four older children from previous relationships.

This news arrived as fans of the popular TV show Yellowstone eagerly anticipate the release of new episodes. The series took a midseason break in January, with a promise to return with fresh episodes in the summer. However, rumors started circulating shortly thereafter, suggesting that Costner wanted to limit his days on set.

These reports were denied by the actor’s attorney, who dismissed them as “ridiculous” and stated that the claim of Kevin only being willing to work for one week in the second half of season five of Yellowstone was a complete falsehood. Subsequently, reports emerged speculating that show creator Taylor Sheridan is planning to kill off the character of John Dutton when Yellowstone resumes.

Amidst this challenging period, Kevin released a statement through his representative regarding his divorce. The representative shared the statement with PEOPLE, which expressed Kevin’s profound sadness over the circumstances that led to his participation in the dissolution of their marriage. The statement further requested privacy and respect for Kevin, Christine, and their children as they navigate through this difficult time.

Through all this, Costner has remained silent on his social media accounts, but on Wednesday (May 17) he broke his silence.

But, it wasn’t about his divorce…it was about his upcoming movie, Horizon, which he is directing. He also wrote it and is producing and starring in the movie. Horizon is rumored to be the reason that he wanted to spend less time on the set of Yellowstone.

His post was a photo of his director’s chair with the caption, “We’re deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making Dances With Wolves. Can’t wait to share it with all of you.”
