The Yellowstone Actor Is Back With A New Western
In collaboration with the History Channel, Kevin Costner is back with another western. However, this time, it is not a fiction story like his recent Netflix release, Horizon: An American Saga, but a docuseries.
Costner is the executive producer and also takes center stage as the narrator of the film. Kevin Costner’s The West promises a dark retelling of United States history. It is set to release on Memorial Day, which honors the nation’s servicemen and women throughout history who have given their lives for America.
In the docuseries, American history expert Ed O’Donnell shares,
“Many people have to pay the price of ambition and westward expansion. Everyone is willing to fight — and die — for it.”
Author Yohuru Williams added, “American forces have a sense of superiority. The Native Americans are going to prove them deadly wrong.” These quotes share a glimpse into the documentary and the story it is going to tell. The story of the foundation of the United States as we know it today.
Kevin Costner Promises The Docuseries Will Be “Shocking”
The actor opened the trailer by saying, “What do we see when we think of the West?”
The trailer featured an eerie version of “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by brief interviews with historians and clips showcasing historical events. Over the screen, a list of juxtaposing words was displayed: power and power shift, law and lawlessness, order and disorder, hope and despair, strength and weakness, violence and beauty.
He ended the chilling trailer by promising that,
“These stories will captivate us — and shock us. Now it’s time to come face to face with the real story of our wild past.”
