A Powerful Force: Lindsay Ell
Anyone who has ever seen Lindsay Ell perform knows that the singer and guitarist is a force to be reckoned with. She’s an equally powerful force in the recording booth, where she crafted her critically acclaimed album The Project.
That album contained the song “Criminal,” which was released as a single in December 2017. It topped the country chart in Ell’s home country of Canada, and also climbed as high as the 19th spot on the Country Airplay chart in the U.S.
Based on the success of The Project, “Criminal,” and her 2018 album The Continuum Project, it seems that Ell is experiencing a prime stage of her life and career. That’s why it came as a huge shock to the almost 30-year-old singer when she learned some troubling news after a recent doctor’s appointment.
A Shocking Discovery
In late February, Ell revealed to her fans on Instagram that she would soon be undergoing surgery. She explained that during a doctor’s appointment, it was discovered that she had some “pre-cancerous” cells in her body that needed to be removed.
“Sometimes we think we’re fine,” Ell wrote. “Sometimes we think we eat healthy and workout, and that means we should be fine. But never underestimate the power of a check up at the doctor.“

She underwent surgery that same day, and took a few days to recover before briefly updating her fans on how everything had gone.
Sharing a photo from her hospital bed, an optimistic Ell flashed a smile and a “thumbs up” at the camera. She explained in the caption that “everything went good,” and thanked the doctors and nurses who took care of her.

Ell didn’t let the surgery hold her back! Just days later she was overseas in Berlin to kick off the start of a month-long tour around the world.
But even though she has been busy performing, Ell still wanted to take the time to provide her followers with a more in-depth update about her surgery and recovery.
How Everything Went & How She’s Doing Now
The video opened with Ell sitting at her kitchen counter before her surgery, explaining how the doctor never would have discovered the pre-cancerous cells if she hadn’t gone in for a routine checkup. She encouraged everyone watching to be sure to keep up with their doctor’s appointments, even if they think they are perfectly healthy.
After that short message, Ell skipped to show herself getting prepped for surgery.
After a two-hour surgery during the day, Ell was able to go home and was told to get plenty of sleep. But before she drifted off, she once again encouraged everyone to keep up with their health by regularly visiting the doctor.
“Even if your body feels fine and you think you are healthy, you never know what’s really going on,” she said. “And just getting an annual check up could be the difference to saving your life and catching something early. You honestly never know.”
That’s definitely an important message to share! You can check out Ell’s full video update about her surgery below. We’ll be keeping her in our prayers as she continues to recover.
