Riley Watts from Exmouth, Western Australia shared a video on TikTok of a massive huntsman spider in the process of munching down a lizard it had caught.

Spider expert Dr. Lizzie Lowe, from Macquarie University’s Department of Biological Sciences said that it was a grey huntsman spider. The huntsman spider is the type of spider that sees its prey and runs at them as fast as it can to inject the with lethal venom. They don’t produce webs.

“They usually love eating cockroaches because when you think of it cockroaches are mush inside and they’re easy for them to digest, whereas lizards are more complex with bones and harder to get,” Dr. Lowe told Daily Mail.

The huntsman spider’s leg span can reach up to 15 centimeters (5.9 in).

She added that the spiders have terrible vision, that they can only see light, dark, and movement. They usually go for insects so she believes the lizard was caught on accident due to poor eyesight.

“That’s why it probably caught the lizard. It would’ve caught it without realising. They don’t have a web to catch prey on – they see movement and run at it, do a quick little bite and inject venom. The prey then slows down and it sits there and digests it,” Dr Lowe said.
