Tim Allen, beloved actor and star of the hit TV show “Home Improvement,” recently spoke out about the legal troubles surrounding one of his former on-screen sons.

The Hollywood Reporter launched an investigation into Zachery Ty Bryan, who portrayed Brad Taylor on the show from 1991 to 1999, and the allegations of domestic violence and financial fraud that have been leveled against him.

Bryan’s woes began in October 2020 when he was arrested in Oregon on charges that included felony strangulation and harassment. Eventually, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors – menacing and fourth-degree assault. But that’s not all.

The Hollywood Reporter has also uncovered accusations from four unnamed sources claiming that Bryan defrauded them through a deceptive agricultural-technology startup scheme.

What Tim Allen Said About Zachery Ty Bryan

Tim Allen shared his thoughts on the matter. “I don’t know what’s going on with him,” Allen confessed to The Hollywood Reporter. “Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let somebody go through their process. At a certain point, he deviated from the guy I know to somebody who is reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can’t control. I don’t know what happens when people get corrupted. You just don’t know.”

Bryan, however, is not one to sit back and let the allegations define him. He staunchly defended himself against the claims of fraud, denying any involvement in shady dealings.

“What people don’t understand is that you take risks,” Bryan explained. “Nothing is for sure. It’s the same with movie investments and everything else – you lose or you win.”

But what about the domestic violence incident that occurred just 16 days after his public separation from ex-wife Carly Matros? Bryan insists that it was blown out of proportion by Oregon law enforcement.

“We didn’t even really get that physical,” he clarified. “We got really loud. We were screaming, and because we were in a townhome with thin walls, everybody could hear.”

Bryan chose not to fight the charges, accepting two misdemeanors instead to avoid the stress and drama of a prolonged legal battle.

Despite these controversies, Bryan remains involved with his partner, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, and together they have welcomed several children into their lives. Tim Allen, ever the optimist, hopes that Zachery Ty Bryan will find his way.

“I know Zach’s heart. He’s got to figure out his own way,” Allen affirmed.

So, as the investigation into Bryan’s legal troubles unfolds, one thing is certain: the young actor has certainly deviated from the character we once knew. How did he get to this point? What lies ahead for him? Only time will tell.
