‘Voice’ Contestant Lands On Team Kelly After Auditioning With Luke Combs Song

In 2017, Luke Combs started to take the world by storm.

He was riding high off the massive success of his debut single “Hurricane” when he released his second single, “When It Rains It Pours.” It reached the top spot on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.

It’s also been certified 2x Platinum, so it’s no surprise why Cookeville, Tennessee-native Jake Hoot wanted to perform this song at his Blind Audition for The Voice.

While his voice is a bit different from Combs’ naturally gravelly tone, Hoot hit every note with precision and ease. It looked like Kelly Clarkson wanted to hit her button almost immediately, but waited to see what Blake Shelton would do.

While Shelton looked to be making up his mind, Clarkson pressed her button and was ecstatic when the “God’s Country” singer decided not to. He said he thought Clarkson used her block on him so he didn’t want to give her the satisfaction!

Turns out she didn’t! And she finally got a country singer on her team, one she says “sounds like Ronnie Dunn,” which Hoot took as a complete compliment.

Looking back now, Shelton is probably kicking himself for not turning, seeing as Hoot won the whole thing!
